Don't see it being a trap. The Crone, as in Jacob's and Tris' 'Crone', is behind this. She pushed Harcourt's slim amount of conscience/survival instinct so he'd betray Jeremiah and Angela.
It is NOT going to ne straight forward, though. As soon as I heard about the Crone effing with Harcourt's dream, I figured Jacob will know about it, and make an appearance. Remember how he just 'happened' to show up with Black Blood when Tris and the rest of them were nearly fucked in the 'Flesh Chamber'.
Nothing gets past Jacob. Nothing. The friction point is Jacob wants Elen, and Jack is gonna kill Elen, Jeremiah and Angela; he's gonna let the beast eat. I see a big potential for a serious ass conflict between Jack and Jacob, and Jacob is going to lose; his ego is too big to respect Jack's cursed beast.
Jacob dying also opens the story line for Tris and the Witches; otherwise, that entire plot line is a repetitive dead end. Tris taking over will allow changes between the coven and Black Blood.
Pure speculation on my part; I imagine NA will surprise the shit out of us. I don't think Jack or anyone close to Jack is gonna die. I don't think Jack's psyche could survive it, but someone other than Jeremiah, et al has to die. Jacob dying wouldn't bother him, one bit; gets the crazy fuck away from his Mom, and removes a potential threat to Annie.
It just makes sense to me.
