Atypical Amiodarone toxicity: Iatrogenic ataxia and dysarthria in an elderly female. Some of its most commonly known side effects include corneal deposits
Amiodarone is a potent inhibitor to a number of drug metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters, including CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and P-glycoprotein. In addition, the expected hepatic, thyroid and pulmonary side effects of amiodarone are much more pronounced in the elderly population.
In this study by Roy et al. on amiodarone for the treatment of paroxysmal AF, 18% of patients discontinued amiodarone because of side effects . Although studied extensively in many patient groups, there are no data on side effects, safety and effectiveness for the use of amiodarone in the elderly population.
When elderly patients are administrated with amiodarone, cardiologists and pharmacists should carefully evaluate the long-term and short-term side effects, as well as whether combined use with other drugs will increase the adverse reactions of amiodarone.
Amiodarone is a powerful anti-arrhythmic drug. However, its use is somewhat limited by side-effects. No study examining side-effects specifically in elderly patients exists. We have reviewed noncardiac side-effects in 61 elderly patients on long-term oral amiodarone treatment (follow-up 3-66 months)

one of my own pet peeves, sorry
The story was awesome...
Given all the side effects of mostly untested medications I could honestly see this happening to someone since most new meds get pulled within 5 years because of the side effects.
